Autoimmune Disorders

Autoimmune Disorders

Autoimmune diseases arise from an overactive immune response of the body against substances and tissues normally present in the body. In other words, the body actually attacks its own cells. The immune system mistakes some part of the body as a pathogen and attacks it. This may be restricted to certain organs (e.g. in autoimmune thyroiditis) or involve a particular tissue in different places (e.g. Goodpasture's disease which may affect the basement membrane in both the lung and the kidney).

Myasthenia Gravis Treatment

Myasthenia gravis is a chronic autoimmune neuromuscular disease characterized by varying degrees of weakness of the skeletal (voluntary) muscles of the body. The name myasthenia gravis, which is Latin and Greek in origin, literally means "grave muscle weakness." With current therapies, however, most cases of myasthenia gravis are not as "grave" as the name implies. In fact, most individuals with myasthenia gravis have a normal life expectancy.

Causes Myasthenia Gravis
Myasthenia gravis is caused by a defect in the transmission of nerve impulses to muscles. It occurs when normal communication between the nerve and muscle is interrupted at the neuromuscular junction—the place where nerve cells connect with the muscles they control. Normally when impulses travel down the nerve, the nerve endings release a neurotransmitter substance called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine travels from the neuromuscular junction and binds to acetylcholine receptors which are activated and generate a muscle contraction.

Management in Vedanta
In Ayurveda literature terms like Vatashleshmika vyadhi, various types of Avaranas, urustambha, Amavata, amajanya - vyadhis are documented that have similar nature of diseases process as that in Autoimmune Disorders. The treatment modalities documented under these disease conditions are found to be effective in various types of auto-immune disorders in modern researches. The selection of Panchakarma therapy & combination of ayurveda based herbs depends upon the stage of the disease, organ involved, nature & agni of diseased.  After a vigorous study on the subject & taking leads from Charaka Samhita ,an  Ayurveda 5000 years old text; Dr. Prasher developed his insight in this particular subject & treated a  nos. cases of different types of Ayurveda system of treatment helpful in overcoming this dreaded disease conditions  at various stages.
